Kingsley's Pearl

LOCATION Galle
FROM COLOMBO 116 km - 3 hours 30 minutes

Introduction

Located in beautiful and charming Thalpe, Kingsley’s Pearl is an elegant five bedroom beach villa, in front of a coral reef. The drive Colombo will take approximately four hours, or consider taking an air taxi to Koggala (45 minutes) which is 10 minutes away by road.

Overview

Kingsley’s Pearl is a study in serenity. It has been painstakingly designed by an Australian architect to allow natural light and sea breezes. The verandahs, bedrooms and halls are light and airy and give openness to the place. Time moves slowly as you spend your days lounging in a hammock, perusing through a magazine while reclining on a planter’s chair or sipping a cup of only the finest Ceylon tea. Local architectural features have been skillfully incorporated within the villa’s contemporary themes.

Accommodation

There are five elegantly furnished, spacious bedrooms on offer. The master features a private terrace with a sitting area while four feature an en suite bath, while the fifth has a rustic outdoor shower. They come with four poster beds, air conditioning, mosquito nets, overhead fans and LCD TVs.

Facilities

The beach directly in front of the property is not safe for swimming due to the presence of a coral reef. However, a hundred yard walk will take you to the picture perfect Thalpe bay. There is a central courtyard and swimming pool as well as open verandahs which serve as living and dining spaces. The clay roofs and terracotta tiles keep the villa cool during the day. There is an indoor sitting area as well, with a LCD TV, satellite channels, DVD player, CD player, library, board games and musical instruments. The villa is fully staffed and comes with a chef who will prepare both western and local fare according to your preferences. You can even accompany him to the markets to select your own ingredients.

Excursions

Galle’s UNESCO World Heritage fort is just a 15 minute drive away and many beaches in Unawatuna are safe for swimming all year round. You can also visit the Turtle Conservation Project in Rekawa or embark on a whale watching expedition during migration months.
