Located in the west
portion of the island, Governor's camp provides a luxury camping experience for
those eager to experience the superb wildlife that Udawalawe has to offer with
a touch of elegance. This secure 3 acre plot is only 12 km (10 minute drive)
from the entrance of the Udawalawe National Park.
Governor's camp lies
at one with nature, surrounded by a canopy of trees and side by side to a
constructed water reservoir or 'wewa'. You can eat tasty Sri Lankan meals
cooked by attentive staff in the central cadjan pavilion and take a rest in
between safari rounds in the second pavilion which houses 10 beds. Herds of
elephants, wild buffalo, sambhur and a myriad of birds can be viewed in their
natural surroundings on wild life safaris in the nearby national park. At the
camp itself, you can spend your time bird watching, fresh water fishing,
swimming, kayaking, canoeing and boating.
Governor's camp has
10 single beds in the cadjan pavilion and an attached and secure double
bedroom. There is also a canvas tent available which can accommodate 8 people
and 12 extra canvas camp beds are available on request. There are 20 mosquito
nets and 30 pillows available.
There is an unlimited water supply on site for general use,
two twin showers and two toilets. 570 litres of drinking water is also
available on site and hot water is available from the tap. There are 2 solar
fans, a solar lighting system and a TV. There is mobile phone reception for
those using Dialog, Tigo or Mobitel. A full time cook and cleaner are always on
ground, there is a kitchen with a gas stove and a gas fuelled BBQ.
