This divine two
storey mansion lies within the Horathapola coconut estate in Sri Lanka's
expansive coconut belt, stretching from Negombo to Puttalam and towards
Kurunegala. Horathapola was originally built in the early 1900s, but was
restored in 2003, maintaining its historic charm and atmosphere. Enjoy the
magnificent green landscapes of rural Sri Lanka at this timeless location.
Horathapola estate is
a working organic coconut estate of approximately fifty acres. Aside from
coconuts - rice, cashew nuts, mangoes and other fruits, spices and hardwood
trees are cultivated here. The plantation bungalow is well hidden in this
massive estate, so guests will experience a secluded holiday experience with
only a variety of birds as visitors. First built by the British owner of the
estate, this bungalow has a
unique historical aura about it and is surrounded by a large lawn and tall
flowering trees. Spend your days within the compound going for walks, swimming
in the eco friendly salt water pool or the jacuzzi or reading a book in the
library. There is a vast amount of space to enjoy a relaxing and undisturbed
holiday. You can also go for a bullock cart ride around the estate to see how
the fruits and spices are grown or go birdwatching or trekking. The chef offers
Sri Lankan cookery classes. Some guests who are keen to venture out of the
estate can visit nearby village temples, the local markets, enjoy a bike ride
on the village roads, or a day trip to the ancient city of Panduwasnuwara and
the ancient rock temple- Yapahuwa. For those craving sun and sea, Negombo Beach
is just 30 minutes away.
