The Reef is a
boutique hotel set amidst three acres of brilliant tropical foliage, lotus
filled ponds that reflect the cheery Sri Lankan sun and palm fringed pavilions.
It is an informal option with just seven suites to be had, and one that
cherishes each and every guest. The Reef is located in the seaside town of Wadduwa,
just 45 minutes away from Colombo and two hours from the international airport.
Nature plays a part
at the Reef and she plays with great aplomb. The boutique hotel uses garden and
water features to truly woo everyone that steps within its walls. Enormous lily
ponds push delicate flowers upwards, and you can take it all in from a
blossoming garden pavilion. The Indo-colonial design gives the boutique hotel a
distinct allure which keeps guests wanting more at every turn.
Each of the 7 suites
have been furnished with much thought. Everything from the furniture to the
floor tiles, to the 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, have a story to
tell. The canopied four-poster beds come from Calcutta and were originally
constructed for members of the British Raj during the 1840’s. The Kerala tiles
are Bharat hand painted ones originally invented by monks in the 12th century.
The en suite bathroom comes with a free standing, hand-carved granite tub,
shower with polished granite screen and twin vanities, also made of granite and
of Indian origin. A large Venetian mirror adorns the walls. The bath and shower
products are from Kama Ayurveda- a prominent brand in India. The suites all
have private verandahs where cocktails and meals can be taken.
The exquisite infinity pool and accompanying Jacuzzi provide
for restful lounging during your stay and the beach is but a short stroll away.
The Reefresh Spa offers a colourful range of massages and restorative therapies
and the Yoga Pavilions offers instruction on Hatha Yoga practice. There is a
small library with a limited selection of books as well as all weather tennis
court, table tennis table and a jogging track within the property. Dining can
take place in the formal dining area or in the privacy of your own suite, and
consists of both local and western fare made only with the finest and freshest
