This little property
is a rarity- in the sense that though it is located a mere forty minute drive
from Colombo, it somehow manages to make a visitor feel as though the hustle
and bustle of city life is light years away. It is a place that can accommodate
both those seeking a romantic escape or a family getaway and still manages to
maintain its tranquil air. Java moon is inspired and it in turn inspires-
writers and artists will delight in the lush tropical gardens and the
surrounding Bolgoda Lake.
Java Moon is located in Piliyandala 40 minutes away from the city center and a
one and half hour drive from the Bandanaike International Airport. Thus, it is
a convenient start or end point to any holiday.
Java Moon hails
itself as a true haven- a claim that is perhaps attested to by the serenity
experienced within it. The ambience is romantic in many different ways- the
romance of a love shared between two people or the romance of a true tropical
garden with palms from all over the world, ostentatious trees and tall bamboos.
Even the rooms are cleverly attired in romantic colour palettes- fiery saffron
oranges and cool ochre hues, pea green and emeralds and ocean blues. The sari
curtains are soft and delicate, adding to the ambience. Nature enthusiasts will
delight in the myriad species of bird that frequent the property’s gardens as
well as other animals like monkeys, otters and tortoise. Guests can experience
that perfect Sri Lankan sunset to the steady rhythmic percussion of an evening
temple chant or to look out over a lake that is inked in night, gardens dotted
with fireflies and listen to the melody of a thousand crickets.
Three stand alone
houses function as three suites each of which can comfortably accommodate two
adults and a child. Drawing inspiration from local architecture, the suites
feature verandahs and courtyards as well and are furnished with carefully
chosen Dutch period antique furniture. Other in room facilities include en
suite bath and private living space. Charming pieces of art add even more
colour to the suites.
The master suite comes with an infinity pool as well a spectacular view of the
lake while the second suite has both garden and lake views. The smaller suite
opens out into a paved terrace.
Dining is left mostly to guest’s wishes here at Java Moon.
Times are flexible and you can choose to dine by the pool, on your verandah or
in the garden looking out over the lake. Sri Lankan food is the main order of
the day with tasty rice and curries being served. However BBQ’s are also
popular. Relaxing by the pool and catching up on that tan is a great way to
spend lazy days, but for the more adventurous maybe a canoeing trip on the lake
or a boat ride where one can maybe catch a glimpse of a crocodile. Fishing is
